Welcome aboard! Our journey begins in Sydney, the largest community on Cape Breton Island. Founded in 1785, Sydney grew into one of Canada's leading coal mining and steel-producing centres. Today, it is a vibrant waterfront city and the gateway to the famous Cabot Trail.
Travelling north, we pass through North Sydney, one of Atlantic Canada's busiest ferry ports, with ferry service connecting Cape Breton and Newfoundland for over 100 years.
We then cross the Seal Island Bridge, completed in 1961, with beautiful views of the Bras d'Or Lake, Canada's inland sea and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Welcome to St. Ann's Bay, the gateway to the Cabot Trail. This scenic section, often called the Mini Cabot Trail, features rolling mountains, forests, and spectacular Atlantic Ocean views.
Our first stop is Cabotto Chocolates & Gallery, where you can enjoy handcrafted Belgian-style chocolates, local artwork, and unique gifts.
Next, visit the Glass Artisans Studio & Gallery, where skilled artists create beautiful handcrafted glass pieces and often demonstrate the art of glass blowing.
We'll also stop at the popular Clucking Hen Café & Bakery, famous for its homemade soups, seafood chowder, sandwiches, fresh baking, and delicious desserts.
Continuing along the Cabot Trail, we reach the dramatic Wreck Cove Cliffs, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic coastline and the nearby Wreck Cove Hydroelectric Station.
Our next stop is the historic Keltic Lodge, overlooking Cape Smokey and the Atlantic Ocean. Since 1940, it has welcomed visitors with spectacular views and is home to the famous Highlands Links Golf Course.
Finally, we arrive at Ingonish Beach, where a narrow sandy beach separates the Atlantic Ocean from Freshwater Lake. It's one of the few places where you can enjoy both saltwater and freshwater swimming just steps apart.
