Some evenings are meant to be enjoyed slowly.
Leave the lights of Alta behind and join us for a comfortable and peaceful journey into the Arctic night, in search of the Northern Lights.
This is more than a bus tour. You are travelling with Finnmark Adventure, a small local company based in Alta. We live here, know the landscape and understand how quickly the Arctic weather can change.
We follow the sky
There is no fixed route or single viewing point. During the evening, our local guides follow the weather, clouds and forecasts and adjust the journey to find the best possible conditions.
Sometimes we stay close to Alta. Sometimes the road takes us further into the countryside.
When the sky looks promising, we stop and step outside.
Feel the crisp Arctic air, take in the quiet landscape and look up. There is no need to hurry. Take photographs, enjoy the silence or simply watch the sky.
A little science. A little mystery.
Your evening includes a dedicated Aurora presentation, explaining the fascinating science behind the Northern Lights in a simple and enjoyable way.
Learn how activity on the Sun creates the Aurora, why the lights move and why they can appear in different colours.
But science is only part of the story.
For generations, people in the north have looked up at the same sky and wondered about the lights. The Sámi and other Arctic communities developed their own stories and beliefs about the mysterious glow.
Some stories say the lights were connected to the spirits of those who had passed away. Others warned people to treat the lights with respect.
We cannot tell you whether the old stories are true.
But standing beneath the Aurora on a quiet Arctic night, you may understand why people once believed there was something magical about it.
Warm, comfortable and relaxed
Our bus is warm and comfortable, with plenty of space to sit back and enjoy the journey.
During the evening, we serve warm drinks and Arctic snacks, giving you time to warm up and relax between stops.
There is no pressure to take the perfect photograph. Sometimes the best way to remember the Northern Lights is simply to stand still and watch.
For groups of six guests or fewer, the experience is operated by car, making the evening even more personal.
Nature sets the pace
We never promise the Northern Lights — nobody can. Clouds, weather and solar activity are beyond our control.
What we can promise is that our local guides will use their knowledge and experience to give you the best possible opportunity to see them.
And even when the lights remain hidden, the Arctic night is beautiful in its own way: quiet roads, snow-covered landscapes, open skies and the peaceful feeling of being far north.
We live here. We know this place. And we would love to share it with you.
Warm bus. Hot drinks. Arctic snacks. Local stories. A little Arctic magic.
And perhaps, above you, the Northern Lights will begin to dance.
