Córdoba is famous for it’s courtyards, and once a year during the festival de los "patios cordobeses", private houses all over the city open up their courtyards to the public for two weeks. Since 1921, the Town Hall has organised a competition of Courtyards and Crosses in the first week of May, and the owners decorate their houses with great care to try and win the prestigious award offered by the authorities. This "Festival de los Patios Cordobeses" were declared as World Heritage tradition by UNESCO in 2012. The festival is an opportunity to discover the most beautiful courtyards in the city, and fills the streets with colour, the scent of jasmine and orange blossom. With an official guide you will discover the famous courtyards of Córdoba and learn about its history. You will visit the districts of Santa Marina, San Lorenzo and la Magdalena, learning not only about the courtyards but the history of this popular quarters too.
