This tour consists of a marvelous walk through the ancient Roman cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii, both buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. On this tour, you'll be able to see all the major highlights.
Herculaneum, although smaller, is much better preserved than Pompeii. While Pompeii was covered in four to five meters of ashes, a landslide of 20-meter-deep mud buried Herculaneum. Carbonized wooden objects, intact paintings, and mosaics are still preserved, providing an extraordinary glimpse into ancient Roman life. During a two-hour private guided tour, your guide will bring the city to life. Highlights include the Temple of the Augustali, the beach where over 300 skeletons were discovered, the thermal baths, the forum, the house of Neptune and Amphitrite, the Samnite house, the gymnasium, the house of the Deers, and more.
Afterwards, enjoy a stop for lunch at a typical restaurant, winery, or pizzeria before heading to Pompeii for another guided tour.
A walk in Pompeii is a very intense experience; you'll feel as though you're wandering in a town that is still alive. Learn about its history and how the Romans lived while exploring its most important public buildings and private houses. Highlights include the Marina Gate, the Basilica, the Forum, the Forum baths, the Lupanar (brothel), the bakery, the house of Faun, the Termopolium Capuano, the house of the Tragic Poet, and the famous plaster casts.
