  • This is an experience where you can visit two workshops and follow the process of how Echizen lacquerware is made. The spoon you create with your own hands is sure to contain not only your affection but also the magnificent story of Echizen lacquerware.
  • Experience Point 1: Hacoa, a popular wooden goods store
  • Hacoa is a wooden goods brand born from a company that produces the wooden base for Echizen lacquerware. Hacoa has captivated many people with its reliable techniques that have been passed down through the generations and a variety of highly designed products made using wood materials. Next to the factory we will be visiting this time is the company's own store, where you can see a variety of wooden goods that are unique to Hacoa, including wooden keyboards that show off the craftsmanship of the craftsmen.
  • Experience Point 2: Urushirindo, a long-established shop with over 200 years of history
  • Founded in 1793 (Kansei 5), Urushirindo is a long-established lacquerware company that has been involved in the lacquerware industry for generations. They adhere to traditional techniques, never using chemical paints, and carefully apply lacquer to each piece using a brush. As a manufacturer in the Echizen lacquerware production area, which has a history of 1,500 years, they are spreading the culture of lacquerware and bowls while passing on the lacquerware manufacturing techniques passed down from their predecessors to the next generation.
  • Experience point 3: Make your own original spoon
  • After watching the craftsman's handiwork, you will then polish the wooden spoon with your own hands. The subtle differences in shape and texture that can appear depending on how you polish it are one of the joys of handmade items. It is one of the ways to experience the fun of craftsmanship. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to apply lacquer to the spoon that has been polished by Hacoa. There are three lacquer colors available: raw lacquer, black, and red, so you can choose your favorite. The color of the lacquer will change between when you are applying it and when it is finished. You can experience this change only through this experience, where you can apply the lacquer yourself.
