Aso

Our driver, Xiao Li, drove very steadily and was always punctual. We enjoyed the quiet and comfortable ride. The journey to Takachiho Gorge took about three hours, and we spent most of the time sleeping and enjoying the scenery outside the window. Occasionally, we would chat, and he would offer some suggestions on our travel arrangements, which was very considerate of our schedule and needs.

Thanks to Miya for her detailed explanations and attentive service throughout the trip, and to driver Mako-san for her smooth and safe driving. Ample time was allocated at each stop. If you're not driving yourself, this would be a great trip to visit several Aso attractions.

June is the rainy season, and although the weather was terrible, we were lucky; it didn't rain heavily while we were walking, so we saw all the attractions. The round trip by bus took about 2.5-3 hours each way (with one rest stop in between). There were restrooms at the meeting point and at the attractions, which was a big plus. The Kamishimi Kumanozha Shrine was also amazing on a rainy day (it had an even more psychedelic feel). There were some lunch options (the rice burgers and hot dogs weren't exactly delicious, but they weren't bad). Although Takachiho Gorge looked like a landslide, we were able to see the waterfall formed by the rain early in the morning. This trip once again proved that a guide is very important, and so is a change of mindset.

The Takachisui Gorge is magnificent, beautiful both up close and from afar. The walking route is only about 30 minutes, not strenuous. Lunch arrangements went smoothly; the Wagyu beef set meal was generally good, and the portions were generous. It would have been even better if the Wagyu beef were more fatty. The Aso volcano grasslands are also beautiful, with distant lakes resembling a fairyland, and the distant volcanic smoke adding a touch of magic. The tour guide was very responsible, taking care of the group members from beginning to end and providing detailed explanations of the sights and attractions in Fukuoka. Overall, I was very satisfied with the trip and would highly recommend it!
