Before setting off, I read some online reviews and was initially a bit worried about the "Aurora Tour" that hosted us. After experiencing it firsthand, I felt it had its pros and cons, and I'd like to share my experience for your reference. 【Airport Pickup, Aurora Chasing, and Campsite】 The airport pickup was very punctual, and the aurora chasing itinerary was adjusted according to the weather. The first two days were spent waiting for the aurora at the campsite, which had a warm indoor space and provided hot drinks and snacks. When the wind wasn't too strong, they even had an outdoor fire – the overall arrangements were quite thoughtful. Luckily, we saw a great aurora on the first day, and an even bigger one on the second! Although the weather wasn't good on the third day, we drove out to chase the aurora, but we still managed to see it. Seeing the aurora on all three days was incredibly lucky! ✨ 【Aurora Chasing Guides】 We encountered three different guides over three nights, each with a different service experience. ▪️ First Night|Chinese Guide "Aurora Worker" 🤣 Excellent photography skills, friendly attitude, and very thorough in explaining the aurora – a great overall experience! 👍 ▪️ Second Night|Hong Kong Male Guide Most of the time, he spoke Cantonese, which made communication a bit difficult for us since we don't understand Cantonese very well. The photography skills and the level of initiative in providing service were somewhat lacking. ▪️ Night 3 | Hong Kong female tour guide Christina was very lively, provided great emotional support, took great care in taking photos, and proactively cared about the needs of tourists. She was a tour guide who left a very good impression on us. 【City Tour | Taiwan tour guide Momo】 Momo was very nice and earnestly wanted to introduce the local features. We highly praised her performance. However, perhaps due to the company's tight schedule, the need for airport pick-up, and the late arrival of other members of the group, there wasn't enough time for sightseeing. The whole trip felt rushed. We suggest the company readjust the schedule and pick-up arrangements to allow tourists more time for sightseeing. But the tour guide herself was really great; the problem mainly lay in the itinerary arrangement. 【Overall Summary】 This aurora tour had its merits and areas for improvement. ✅ Airport pick-up was punctual, and the aurora chasing was adjusted according to the weather; we saw the aurora on all three days. ✅ Some tour guides provided excellent service; their photography and tourist care were impressive. ⚠️ There was a gap between the quality of service and the language communication experience of the tour guides, and the time arrangement for the city tours could also be improved. I believe that aurora tourism shouldn't be judged solely on whether or not you actually see the aurora; the guide service, itinerary planning, and overall traveler experience are equally important. We were fortunate enough to see the aurora we were hoping for this time, and we also had some fantastic guides. These are all based on our personal experience, and we hope they can be helpful for those planning an aurora trip to Yellowknife!
I'm so glad I joined this local tour. The tour guide was very helpful and professional, using their expertise to guide us in searching for the aurora borealis. Seeing the aurora moving across the sky was incredibly exciting and unforgettable.
The aurora camp is amazing, with campfires, hot drinks, and cotton candy. They even have photographers to take aurora photos for you.
