Leave the city behind and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Ecuador’s cloud forest on this unforgettable two-day journey from Quito. As you descend from the Andes into the lush green valleys of the northwest, you’ll discover a region bursting with biodiversity, culture, and warm local hospitality.
Your adventure begins in Yunguilla, a beautiful community tourism project tucked into the mountains. Here, visit a charming orchid farm where dozens of delicate species showcase the extraordinary botanical diversity of the cloud forest. Continue to Alambi Reserve, a true hummingbird paradise, where these tiny, iridescent birds zip and hover around feeders in a mesmerizing display of speed and color.
Later, enjoy a flavorful coffee experience at a nearby finca, learning about the cultivation and roasting of Ecuadorian coffee while savoring fresh brews surrounded by green hills and peaceful countryside. In the afternoon, explore the fascinating Tulipe Archaeological Site, where ancient stone pools and ceremonial structures reveal the legacy of the mysterious Yumbo culture that once thrived in this region.
In the evening, arrive at the beautiful Piripe Lodge, a tranquil retreat nestled in the cloud forest. Surrounded by lush vegetation and the soothing sounds of nature, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this unique ecosystem.
The following morning, wake up to the songs of tropical birds and spend time birdwatching around the lodge, where toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, and many other species can often be spotted right from the trails and gardens. You’ll also take part in the lodge’s special Yumbo’s Heritage activity, an immersive experience inspired by the traditions of the ancient Yumbo people. During this activity, you’ll learn about their deep connection with the forest while helping to plant native species and discovering the incredible variety of fruits that grow in the region - of course with the opportunity to taste several of these fresh tropical flavors.
After lunch, take some time to unwind and enjoy the lodge’s facilities before returning to Quito in the afternoon - bringing with you memories of colorful birds, misty forests, and the hidden cultural treasures of Ecuador’s cloud forest.
