Discover Rwanda's world-famous coffee the way the people who grow it do, by living it for a day. The Isano Coffee Experience is a hands-on, heart-first journey into a real rural community near Kigali, not a staged tour.
You'll be welcomed by a local host family, dressed in traditional kitenge and imikenyero attire, and invited to take part in daily village life, from preparing a homemade Rwandan lunch to walking the coffee farm, harvesting the beans, and roasting and grinding them using traditional methods.
Your day includes: a warm welcome from your host family; dressing in traditional attire and learning its cultural meaning; joining the family to prepare part of a traditional Rwandan meal; a guided walk through the coffee farm to learn the growing cycle; hands-on harvesting of ripe coffee cherries (seasonal, April to July) or observing the process year-round; traditional coffee roasting and grinding by hand; a shared homemade lunch featuring sweet potatoes, cassava, beans, avocado, and fresh fruit; and traditional dance and games with your hosts before a warm farewell.
This experience is led by an English or French speaking cultural guide and designed for curious travelers who want connection over consumption. Groups of up to 15 travelers are welcome, and a portion of your booking directly supports the wellbeing of the community that welcomes you.
What's included: cultural guide, traditional welcome, kitenge and imikenyero attire, coffee farm visit and hands on harvesting, traditional coffee processing, food preparation, traditional Rwandan lunch, coffee and tea, bottled water, traditional dance and games, and a community contribution.
Not included: transportation to the meeting point, gratuities, personal travel insurance, and personal purchases or local crafts.
Please note: live coffee harvesting is seasonal (April to July). All other elements of the experience run year-round.
