Product Info

Discover the birdlife of Santa Cruz de la Sierra on a relaxed 2-hour introductory birdwatching tour designed for beginners, photographers, families and general nature lovers.

Meet your local nature guide and travel toward the greener areas around Urubó, just outside central Santa Cruz. Open grasslands, scattered trees, wetlands, gardens and patches of natural vegetation attract a surprisingly diverse variety of birds.

Rather than searching for difficult specialist species or building an extensive checklist, this experience focuses on finding and enjoying some of the larger, more colorful and characteristic birds of eastern Bolivia.

Depending on the season, weather and natural bird activity, possible sightings may include Toco Toucans, Chestnut-fronted Macaws, Chestnut-eared Aracaris, Burrowing Owls, Rufous Horneros, Crested Caracaras, Southern Lapwings, Chopi Blackbirds, Campo Flickers, woodpeckers, parrots, parakeets, tanagers, raptors and waterbirds.

With a little luck, you may also encounter the distinctive Red-legged Seriema or wetland species such as the Southern Screamer. These should be considered lucky sightings rather than expected encounters.

Your guide will help locate and identify the birds seen during the tour. Binoculars, a spotting scope and a Birds of Bolivia field guide will be available for guests to use during the experience.

The route includes a combination of short walks and observation stops and may change according to the season, weather, water levels and recent bird activity. No previous birdwatching experience is required.

At the end of the tour, return to the agreed meeting point or hotel, depending on the booking option selected.

The activity includes short walks and observation stops on natural or uneven terrain. The exact route may change according to the weather, season, water levels and recent bird activity. All birds and wildlife are completely wild, and no particular species can be guaranteed. Red-legged Seriemas and Southern Screamers should be considered lucky sightings. Morning tours operate approximately from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM, and afternoon tours from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Departure times may vary slightly according to seasonal and local conditions. Binoculars, a spotting scope and a Birds of Bolivia field guide are available for use during the tour.
