Altos de Chavon and La Romana Tour

If you find the Dominican lifestyle contagious, then this half-day shopping trip is for you. You'll go to the impossibly beautiful artist village of Altos de Chavon to explore its boutiques, jewellers and craft shops, then tour La Romana city and its gift shop before exploring an authentic cigar factory.

Altos de Chavon will be first on your agenda, where pretty gardens, cafes and a replica amphitheatre sit amongst quaint boutiques. You'll visit the Taino exhibition at the Museum of Archeology, and then it's on to the vast Jumbo store in La Romana – it's buzzing with locals. There's a sightseeing tour of the city, which is also home to largest sugar cane mill in the country, before dropping in to the Columbus Plaza gift shop.

Here, you'll find everything that speaks with a Dominican accent – coffee, rum, cocoa, cigars, larimar and more. Rounding off the trip is a tour of La Flor Dominicana cigar factory. See the skill with which workers roll some of the world's best cigars, learn about the plant and browse the shop.
