Explore the spiritual and historical significance of the Sanctuary of Fatima on a self-guided tour. Visit the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Chapel of the Apparitions, and the Basilica of the Holy Trinity.
Begin by going to the Visitor Center, where you can find a brief introduction to the history of Fatima, the apparitions of Our Lady, and how it became one of the most important Marian pilgrimage sites in the world.
Walk to the magnificent Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, which was built to commemorate the apparitions of Our Lady to the three shepherd children (Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta). Inside the basilica, you will find the tombs of the three shepherd children and the beautifully ornamented interior, perfect for quiet reflection.
Inside, take the opportunity to admire the frescoes, paintings, and stained glass windows that depict the life of the Virgin Mary and the saints associated with the apparitions.
During the visit, you can also attend a Mass, if you wish. Participation is optional.
Visit the Chapel of the Apparitions, one of the most iconic sites in the sanctuary. This is the place where the Virgin Mary appeared to the three shepherds in 1917. Take a moment for prayer or personal reflection, or simply admire the altar with the image of Our Lady.
Go to the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, one of the largest churches in the world and a recent addition to the sanctuary complex. This modern church has a beautiful, minimalist design that contrasts with the older Basilica. It is a serene space for reflection and prayer.
After visiting the churches, take the opportunity to explore the Sanctuary Museum (Wax Museum), which houses exhibits related to the apparitions, the lives of the three shepherds, and the history of the sanctuary. The museum helps to deepen the historical and cultural context of the site.
Before concluding your visit, spend some time walking through the extensive grounds of the sanctuary. You will find quiet places to pray and reflect, as well as gardens and open spaces to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
