The Tokushima Awa Dance Festival is one of Japan's most representative traditional dance festivals, renowned for its passionate and lively dances and unique music. It is listed as one of Japan's three major Bon Odori (Obon dances). This annual event is typically held for a limited period in the summer, lasting only four days, showcasing the unique summer festival charm of the Shikoku region and attracting tourists from around the world to participate.
The performances at the Tokushima Awa Dance Festival are full of energy and rhythm. Dancers, dressed in gorgeous costumes, move to the unique beat of traditional instruments, presenting synchronized and vibrant 'Ren' (dance groups). Its uniqueness lies in the interaction between dancers and the audience, as well as the incredibly lively atmosphere on-site. Getting a close-up view of the professional dancers' exquisite performances and feeling the impact of the intertwined dance and music is the biggest highlight of the festival.

The Naruto Whirlpools are located in the Naruto Strait in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, and are a world-class natural wonder caused by tidal differences. Visitors can view them from the 'Uzushio Kagaku' (Whirlpool Science Museum) walkway at a high altitude beneath the bridge. The Uzushio Kagaku is built within the girders of the O-Naruto Bridge, offering a close-up, overhead view of the impressive whirlpools. Trips departing from Osaka or Kobe usually provide convenient transportation directly to the Naruto Park area, making it easy for travelers to reach.
The Naruto Whirlpools are formed due to the difference in tidal times between the Pacific Ocean and the Seto Inland Sea, as well as the unique seabed topography of the Naruto Strait. This causes a large volume of seawater to flow at high speed through the narrow strait, creating spectacular vortex phenomena. Their scale is immense and constantly changing, making them one of the few giant whirlpools in the world that can be viewed up close. Thus, they are renowned as a world-class natural wonder, showcasing the magnificent power of nature.
In addition to viewing from the 'Uzushio Kagaku' walkway high above the O-Naruto Bridge, visitors can also experience the awe-inspiring whirlpools up close by taking a 'Naruto Kankosen' (Naruto Sightseeing Boat). The sightseeing boats sail into the central area of the whirlpools, allowing you to feel the immense power of the sea. By combining the high-altitude perspective from the Uzushio Kagaku with the sea-level view from the sightseeing boat, you can appreciate the magnificent spectacle of the Naruto Whirlpools from a comprehensive dual perspective, providing a richer viewing experience.
At the Tokushima Awa Dance Festival, there are primarily two viewing seat options: the 'Nainai-machi Enbujo Special Viewing Seats' and the 'Free Viewing Plan'. The special viewing seats offer the best vantage points, comfortable exclusive seating, and include a special bento box, allowing you to enjoy the professional 'Ren' performances with the highest level of comfort. The free viewing option allows you to stroll freely around the festival grounds, experiencing the lively and spontaneous atmosphere, and enjoying a different kind of festival charm.
