Yu Garden was originally built during the Ming Dynasty, around 1559, by Pan Yunduan for his parents to enjoy peaceful and happy later years. The name 'Yu' (豫) signifies 'peace,' 'pleasure,' and 'contentment,' reflecting the garden's initial purpose as a place of comfort and joy for his family. Its construction embodies classical Chinese filial piety and sophisticated landscape design.
