The Aomori Nebuta Festival is a renowned Japanese summer festival celebrated for its massive, illuminated lantern floats, known as "Nebuta." These intricate floats depict historical figures, mythical creatures, and kabuki characters. Accompanied by rhythmic music and energetic dancers called "haneto," the festival is a vibrant cultural spectacle believed to drive away evil spirits and mark the end of summer.
The Aomori Nebuta Festival typically takes place annually from August 2nd to August 7th. During this period, nightly parades showcase the illuminated floats, culminating in a daytime parade and a spectacular fireworks display over Aomori Bay on the final day, marking the festival's conclusion.
Yes, visitors can certainly view the Aomori Nebuta Festival for free. Various standing areas are available along the parade route on sidewalks.
