The duration of your hike at Cape Kamui depends on your walking pace and how much time you spend taking photos. The round trip from the entrance to Cape Kamui rock at the furthest point takes approximately 60 to 70 minutes. The trail is flat and offers beautiful scenery along the way. We recommend allocating ample time to enjoy the 360-degree ocean views, especially from the tip of the cape, known as the 'forbidden land for women,' which is a paradise for photography enthusiasts.
Considering its remote location, the most convenient way to travel from Sapporo to Cape Kamui is by joining a day tour that includes private transportation. These tours typically offer pick-up services from multiple locations in Sapporo (such as Odori Station or Sapporo Station) and are led by professional guides, saving you the hassle of planning your own transport and transfers. This allows you to easily reach your destination and deeply experience the various attractions.
Cape Kamui in November marks the transition from late autumn to early winter. Temperatures are lower, and the sea breeze is strong, so it's recommended to wear warm, windproof clothing. You might encounter magnificent snow scenery, with the cape covered in white snow, creating a stark contrast with the deep blue Sea of Japan and presenting a unique landscape different from spring and summer. Trail accessibility will depend on the weather, and some areas may have restricted access due to snow or ice. It's advisable to check the latest information before your visit.
The trail at Cape Kamui is renowned for its unobstructed 360-degree ocean views. Its main feature is the cape that stretches straight into the sea, offering magnificent scenery of oddly shaped rocks and rocks interspersed with the azure sea. The most famous photo spots are 'Cape Kamui rock' and the lighthouse at the end of the trail, as well as the curved coastline viewed from a high vantage point overlooking the entire cape. The clear, transparent seawater here, known as 'Kamui Blue,' is excellent material for photography.
When visiting the Otaru Canal, you can opt for a canal cruise to admire the stone warehouses and retro buildings lining the banks from the water, experiencing their unique charm. In the evening, the gas lamps along the canal are lit, creating a romantic atmosphere perfect for a stroll and photos. Additionally, there are many glass craft shops, music box museums, and specialty cafes around the canal, allowing you to experience Otaru's artistic and cultural atmosphere.
The difficulty level of the Cape Kamui trail is generally not high. The path is mostly well-paved with gentle slopes, making it suitable for the general public and families. While some sections might have minor undulations, there are no steep terrains, and you can walk comfortably with just comfortable shoes. The total round trip is about 2 kilometers, which can be completed smoothly even by those who don't exercise regularly. The main challenges are the walking time and tolerance to the sea breeze.
The biggest highlight of participating in the Otaru Blue Grotto boat tour is witnessing the magnificent sight of sunlight penetrating the water and dyeing the interior of the sea cave a mysterious blue. During the boat ride, you can also admire the dramatic cliffs, unique rock formations, and crystal-clear waters of the Otaru coastline. The boat captain will lead visitors deep into the cave to experience the wonders of nature, making it a truly unique marine adventure.
Shiroi Koibito Park offers various interactive experiences suitable for family fun. In addition to touring the chocolate factory's production process, the most popular is the 'My Shiroi Koibito' cookie-making experience. Children can personally make cookies under guidance and then decorate their packaging, taking home a unique souvenir. Furthermore, the park features a miniature train, children's play facilities, and seasonal gardens for families to enjoy.
