*Real-time usage tracking is not supported. Please note there is a 1-2 day delay in data updates from the local Japanese carrier, SoftBank.
You can install the eSIM in advance before arriving at your destination. The usage period will only start counting after you arrive and activate the plan.
An internet connection is required to install the eSIM. It is recommended to install it before departure or use the free airport Wi-Fi at your destination for installation.
Each QR code can only be scanned once on a single device. After it is bound, it cannot be transferred to another device.
How the usage period is calculated: After the eSIM is activated, 24 hours counts as one day. (Example: If a user purchases a 3-day data plan and activates it at 10:00 AM on September 1, the plan will expire at 9:59 AM on September 4.)
The eSIM is valid for 90 days from the date of purchase. Please activate it within the validity period.
Please remember to turn off data roaming on your original SIM card to avoid using your original mobile network and incurring high roaming charges.
On the same device, the eSIM can be deleted and reinstalled after installation, with a maximum of 10 times. The eSIM can be reinstalled within the QR code validity period (for eSIMs not yet activated) or within the plan validity period (for activated eSIMs). After the validity period expires, it can no longer be installed.
If an error message appears after scanning the QR code, it does not necessarily mean the eSIM is invalid. Please restart your phone and go to Settings > Mobile Service to check whether the eSIM has already been added. You may also contact customer service for assistance. Please do not scan another QR code, as this may result in multiple eSIMs being installed on the same device.
For iPhone users, please delete any configuration profiles to avoid issues when using the service. Check steps: Settings → General → Device Management. Scroll to the bottom; if no profile appears, everything is normal.
Network quality varies by country, as each region has different infrastructure and coverage. Refunds cannot be requested due to poor signal in a few areas. If you experience weak signal, you can manually switch carriers: go to Network Selection / Carrier > Turn off Automatic > Search, and then choose from the available carriers.
To maintain network quality and uphold the Fair Usage Policy (FUP), telecom operators in various countries may temporarily restrict data for users who consume excessive data in a short period. This may result in slow speeds or inability to access the internet. To ensure a stable connection, please avoid prolonged video streaming or downloading, software updates, hotspot sharing, or any other high-data usage activities.
If the eSIM plan is deleted before it is fully used or without verification by customer service, it cannot be reissued or refunded.
For detailed eSIM installation instructions and FAQs, please refer to the KKday eSIM guide.

Yes, a Japan eSIM offers significant convenience for travelers. It eliminates the need for physical SIM card installation, allowing for quick and easy activation upon arrival. You can seamlessly switch between your home network and the eSIM without removing your primary SIM. This ensures reliable internet access for navigation, communication, and information lookup throughout your trip, enhancing your travel experience.
Yes, the SoftBank Japan eSIM provides high-speed 4G/5G data connectivity across Japan. SoftBank is one of Japan's major telecommunications providers, known for its extensive network coverage and reliable service, especially in urban areas and popular tourist destinations. This ensures a stable and fast internet experience for all your online needs while traveling.
For a week-long trip, most travelers find daily data plans ranging from 1GB to 3GB to be sufficient. This allows for navigation, social media, messaging, light browsing, and occasional video streaming. If you plan extensive video calls, constant streaming, or tethering, consider a larger daily allowance or an unlimited data plan for peace of mind during your travels.
SoftBank is a highly reputable network provider in Japan, offering robust coverage particularly in major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, as well as popular travel routes. Travelers generally experience strong signal strength and consistent data speeds. While coverage might vary slightly in very remote mountainous regions, SoftBank ensures reliable connectivity for the vast majority of tourist activities and destinations.
The cost of a Japan eSIM is primarily influenced by several factors. These include the total data allowance (e.g., daily limited data, total data packages, or unlimited data), the duration of validity (e.g., 5 days, 7 days, 30 days), and the network speed offered (e.g., 4G or 5G). Different providers may also have varying pricing structures based on their service and network quality.
Activating a Japan eSIM is a straightforward process. After purchase, you typically receive a QR code or activation code via email. You then scan this QR code with your compatible smartphone's settings to add the eSIM profile. Ensure you have a stable internet connection during activation. Once installed, you can enable the eSIM for data roaming upon arrival in Japan, usually through your phone's cellular settings.
Yes, many Japan eSIM providers, including SoftBank, offer unlimited high-speed data options. These plans often come with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP), meaning that after consuming a very large amount of data within a day, speeds might be temporarily reduced to ensure fair usage for all users. However, the data allowance before any potential throttling is generally very generous for typical tourist use.
Most newer smartphone models, including iPhone XR/XS and newer, Google Pixel 3 and newer, Samsung Galaxy S20 and newer, and many other Android flagship devices, support eSIM functionality. To check if your phone is compatible, look for an "Add eSIM" or "Add Cellular Plan" option in your device's cellular settings. You can also consult your phone manufacturer's official website for compatibility details.
