In Peking Opera, 'Wusheng' refers to a specific role type specializing in portraying male characters with strong martial arts skills and heroic combat abilities, such as 'Zhao Yun' in 'Changbanpo'. Their performances utilize a loud, resonant vocal style, giving them a vigorous and rugged demeanor. Wusheng characters are mostly heroic, positive figures, hence they are depicted with handsome makeup ('Junban'). Based on their attire and performance characteristics, Wusheng can be further categorized into 'Changkao Wusheng' (those in long armor) and 'Duanda Wusheng' (those in short attire).

In Peking Opera, 'Mo' is a role that plays elderly male characters, colloquially known as 'Gongmo' in glove puppetry. They typically portray white-bearded, white-haired old men, often depicted with a slow gait and deliberate movements, primarily playing the part of aging elders. Meanwhile, the 'Chou' (clown) character is commonly referred to as 'Sanhua' in Taiwanese traditional opera, serving as the 'supporting cast' who are responsible for creating humor. There are distinct male and female Chou roles.

Peking Opera was historically known as Guoju, Jingxi, and Pingju. 'Guoju' (National Opera) was because it was considered China's 'national quintessence'. 'Jingxi' (Beijing Opera) originated from its formation and dissemination in Beijing. The name 'Pingju' came about after the Republican era when Beijing was renamed Beiping. In Taiwan, Peking Opera was also called 'Guoju' due to political reasons, emphasizing its status as China's national quintessence.

The term 'Hangdang', meaning role classification, is primarily based on the character's age, social status, gender, position, personality, and temperament. Through the makeup, costumes, performance style, and vocal characteristics associated with each role type on stage, the common traits of the character are expressed, thereby aiding the audience's understanding of the plot. In Peking Opera, roles are generally divided into four main categories: Sheng (male), Dan (female), Jing (painted face), and Chou (clown).

Wusheng characters typically embody men with exceptional martial arts skills and valiant combat prowess, such as 'Zhao Yun' in 'Changbanpo'. Because they frequently portray righteous and heroic figures, their performances and makeup strive to showcase a strong and heroic image. They use a loud, resonant singing and speaking style, giving their performances a more robust character, and employ handsome makeup ('Junban') to create the image of a positive hero.
