I highly recommend our guide, Med. He speaks fluent English and Chinese, is a great photographer, and is very responsible. He even asked us what we had eaten to give future tourists some advice. The sights are even more beautiful when you see them in person. If you're not fit, you can pay extra to visit the attractions yourself. You can ride horses at Mount Bromo and take a rickshaw at Mount Ijen, but you'll have to climb up and down the waterfall yourself. It's a physically demanding trip and not suitable for children.
