We are hosting a family-friendly creature-hunting expedition on the Miura Peninsula. This tour covers the sea, rivers, and mountains. We will start with a guided tour of Koajiro Forest, explore the creatures at Wadana-hama Beach, and go river-scavenging in a nearby stream. Meeting times are 09:00 and 13:00 at Misakiguchi Station. We plan to walk from the parking lot to Ena Tidal Flat or Koajiro Forest. As we will be traveling by car to the sea and rivers, we will either travel together in your car or use our vehicle. Creatures to observe: Tidal flats: Japanese mitten crabs, sand bubbler crabs, sesarmid crabs, helice tridens, hemigrapsus sanguineus, snapping shrimp, ghost shrimp, cyclina sinensis, and Manila clams. In the eelgrass beds, you can find juvenile fish such as Japanese seaperch, surfperch, and goby. You can also see many water birds like grey-tailed tattlers, dunlins, little ringed plovers, and little egrets. In autumn and winter, you can also see migratory birds visiting the Miura Peninsula. The tidal flats are truly a treasure trove of life. Rocky shores: Sea slugs, sea hares, sea cucumbers, small fish, gobies, starfish, and shellfish. Crabs and others: Hemigrapsus penicillatus, xanthid crabs, sea urchins, and octopuses. Rivers: Sicyopterus japonicus, trident goby, chaenogobius annularis, rhinogobius, saw crabs, oriental river prawns, and Japanese mitten crabs. Let's search for many creatures on the Miura Peninsula and observe them together. What to bring: Change of clothes, hat, drinks, insect repellent, backpack.
