The best way to discover the Gargano is from the seat of a mountain bike, in true contact with nature. On this MTB Experience tour, you will explore the Umbra Forest and the Vieste hinterland along a network of dirt roads and trails designed for those who want to experience the mountains in an easy and enjoyable way, with no need to be an experienced cyclist.
The experience starts at the Gargano Bike Trail Center or an arranged meeting point in the Vieste area. Here, you will meet your MTB guide, who will help you with any necessary adjustments to your bike (included in the tour) and give you an initial briefing on safety, how to use the controls, and proper behavior on the trails. This is the perfect time to ask questions, explain your skill level, and clear up any concerns.
The half-day Experience route is designed to be accessible: it runs along dirt roads, through wooded sections, and on easy singletrack trails, always in close contact with the natural surroundings of the Gargano promontory. The guide sets the pace according to the group, with breaks to drink, take photos, and enjoy the viewpoints.
During the ride, you will cycle in or around the Foresta Umbra, a unique environment in terms of coolness, shade, and variety of trails. The itinerary may include short climbs, flat sections, and descents that are never overly technical, making it ideal for families, beginners, and less experienced riders who want to approach mountain biking safely.
Along the way, your guide will share interesting facts about the area: the nature of the promontory, the history of the trails, scenic points of interest, and possible alternative routes for those looking for something a bit more challenging. The goal is not to “clock a time” but to enjoy the ride, build confidence on the bike, and have an outdoor experience away from the traffic on the coast.
At the end of the tour, you will return to the starting point with a newfound familiarity with mountain biking, a few additional technical tricks, and, most importantly, the feeling of having discovered the Gargano from an unusual and authentic perspective.
