Product Info

On this private guided tour, you'll discover the hidden side of Venice, the authentic city in its everyday life. The Cannaregio district is undoubtedly the most populous area of Venice: in fact, it is home to the majority of the city's residents and represents the most authentic part of the city. This district is also a treasure trove of incredible gems, marvels of art and architecture.

You will visit the famous Jewish Ghetto, which still defines an entire area of the Cannaregio District today: the Jews living in Venice gave rise to what became the first Jewish ghetto in history, a term now used in every language. The heart of the ghetto is undoubtedly the Campo del Ghetto Nuovo (New Ghetto Square), which is accessed via a magnificent cast-iron bridge flanked by two symmetrical red-brick sentry boxes, a symbol and a reminder of forced isolation and surveillance. Then there is the Campo del Ghetto Vecchio (Old Ghetto Square), which has the distinction of being newer than the Campo del Ghetto Nuovo (New Ghetto Square).

As we cross Campo dei Mori, the Cannaregio district reveals a truly incredible scenic surprise: from a cramped space enclosed by tall buildings, one of Venice’s places of worship, the Church of Madonna dell’Orto, suddenly appears before our eyes, which can be accessed by crossing a simple stone bridge.
The visual impact is magnificent and moving, as the church reveals itself in all its imposing grandeur and with its red façade.
