Lake Yamanakako Autumn Leaves Festival Illumination
Lake Yamanakako, the largest of the Fuji Five Lakes, is famous for its clear water and magnificent reflection of Mount Fuji. Viewed from the lakeshore, Mount Fuji extends long ridges to the left and right, which is incredibly charming. Every year from February to April, despite the cold, swans (known as 'Hakucho' in Japan) fly here to breed. Because tourists often feed them, the swans often approach people, which is why Lake Yamanakako is also known as the 'Lake of Swans'. On June 22, 2013, Lake Yamanakako was inscribed as a World Cultural Heritage site as part of 'Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration'.
*Between October 30 and November 15, 2026, the 'Sunset Beach Autumn Leaves Festival' will be held at the Asahigaoka Lakeside Green Park around Lake Yamanakako. You can enjoy a 1,000-meter-long autumn leaf corridor, and from 16:30-20:30 daily, you can also view the autumn leaves illuminated by lights, which is beautiful and dreamlike.
There will be stalls selling Yamanashi-produced wine and local delicacies on-site, allowing you to taste warm food and spend a wonderful autumn evening while strolling.
