Product Info

Start your experience at the South Stack Visitor Centre, where you’ll meet your local guide and begin your journey along the historic coastline of Holy Island. The tour begins with a visit to Ellin’s Tower, a restored Victorian lookout now used as a birdwatching observatory. From here, we’ll enjoy views of nesting seabirds — including razorbills, guillemots, and puffins (in season) — and learn about the tower’s history and its connection to the lighthouse below.

Next, we’ll head to a viewpoint overlooking the iconic South Stack Lighthouse, first lit in 1809. You’ll hear how it was built, how early lighthouse keepers lived and worked here, and the story of the great storm of 1859 that devastated ships all along this coast.

We’ll then follow the coastal path around the base of Holyhead Mountain, enjoying dramatic sea views and panoramic sights of Holyhead harbour and port in the distance. We’ll stop at the North Stack Fog Signal Station, where you’ll learn about the old cannons that once fired into the mist every four minutes to guide ships safely past the cliffs. You’ll also see the remains of the 1861 magazine building, used to store explosive shells.

Around the halfway point, we’ll take a break at a friendly local café, where a hot drink and your choice of homemade cake or a breakfast bap is included in your tour. It’s a perfect moment to pause, relax, and enjoy some local flavour.

After the café stop, we’ll return via inland paths through open heathland, finishing the loop with a gentle walk away from the coast. This final stretch offers a quieter, more sheltered section of the route, giving you time to reflect on what you've seen and learned.

This 3-hour circular walk covers approximately 4.5 miles (7.2 km) and is suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Along the way, you’ll experience the best of Anglesey’s maritime history, stunning scenery, and local hospitality — all led by a knowledgeable and friendly guide.
