What is Hanabi Koshien?

Hanabi Koshien is Aichi Prefecture's only fireworks competition. Initiated by local citizens in 2019, it became the first fireworks competition in the prefecture. The event does not rely on public funding, but is planned and operated solely through corporate sponsorships and ticket sales. Named after the baseball Koshien, it aims to let pyrotechnicians from across the country compete, while the audience immerses themselves in top-tier fireworks. Every November, over 20 pyrotechnicians from places like Akita, Nagano, Niigata, and Aichi gather at Laguna Beach in Gamagori to take turns lighting up the night sky with the sea breeze, with the 5th event attracting over 12,000 spectators.

What are the highlights of Hanabi Koshien?

The competition consists of two categories: 5-inch creative fireworks and 10-inch freestyle fireworks. Each pyrotechnician showcases their creativity and skill with three 5-inch shells and one 10-inch shell, with judges determining the winner, runner-up, and honorable mentions based on specific rules. The audience can also vote for their favorite fireworks. Beyond the competition, there are musical fireworks and massive shells launched in succession, a scale rarely seen at city fireworks festivals. This ticket is for the General Area, a free-seating grass area facing the sea. There are no assigned seats; you can bring your own picnic mat and find a spot within the area to enjoy the most expansive view of the fireworks and soak in the festive atmosphere.

The 6th Hanabi Koshien will be held on November 21, 2026 (Sat). Doors open at 14:00, and the fireworks competition runs from 18:30 to 20:00.
The event will proceed in the rain. In case of severe weather (e.g., forecasted wind speeds exceeding 10 m/s or weather warnings), it will be postponed to November 22 (Sun) at the same time. Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled date.
No refunds will be provided regardless of postponement or cancellation. Please check the organizer's official website for confirmation on the day of the event.

The General Area is a free-seating grass area. There are no assigned seats; please bring your own picnic mat and find a spot within the designated area. Chairs with legs are prohibited (legless floor chairs are permitted).
Photography equipment such as tripods is restricted to the photography area and is prohibited in the General Area; please do not leave your seat to take photos in the aisles.
Drones, tents, tarps, or open flames are prohibited. Pets are not allowed. You may bring your own food and drinks.
Umbrellas are prohibited during the show; please wear a raincoat in case of rain. Smoking is prohibited throughout the venue, except in designated smoking areas (including e-cigarettes).
The venue and surrounding areas will be very crowded after 17:30; please allow ample time for entry and consider using public transportation.
