Sapa Batik Workshop | Discover Local Artisan & Hmong Culture | Departure from Ta Van Village

Meet a local Hmong artisan and begin with a short introduction to the history, stories, and cultural significance of Batik in Hmong communities. Learn how this traditional craft has been passed down through generations and how Batik patterns are used in traditional textiles and clothing.

Next, learn how to use natural beeswax and the traditional chan tool to draw patterns onto fabric. With guidance from the artisan, create your own design using traditional Hmong-inspired patterns or your own ideas.

You will then discover the natural indigo dyeing process and how the beeswax protects your design from the dye. After the wax is removed, your Batik pattern will be revealed.

During the workshop, you can also borrow traditional Hmong clothing and wear it while enjoying the experience. Take photos in traditional Hmong dress and capture memorable moments with the local artisan and the beautiful scenery of Ta Van Village.

At the end of the experience, take home 1 Batik piece created by yourself, along with 1 small handmade brocade souvenir from the local community.

You can also enjoy 1 cup of tea or a soft drink during the workshop. No previous drawing or handicraft experience is required. Every handmade piece is unique, and small variations are part of its charm.
