Product Info

  • Aomori Nebuta Matsuri: One of the three major festivals in Tohoku and a National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. It is a grand and spectacular midsummer night festival featuring giant illuminated lanterns (Nebuta) paraded on floats. Its origins are said to date back to the Tanabata festivals of the Nara period, and it is considered the most important event of the year for many locals.
  • Akita Kanto Festival: The Akita Kanto Festival is a spectacle where the night is filled with the light of about 280 Kanto lanterns. This festival has a long history as an event to pray for protection against evil and for a bountiful harvest. Traditional performers known as 'sashite' skillfully balance long bamboo poles topped with many lanterns. The entire Kanto pole represents an ear of rice, and the hanging lanterns represent rice bales, symbolizing prayers for a rich harvest.
  • Visit Kakunodate, known as the 'Little Kyoto' of the north, and Koiwai Farm
  • Stay at hot spring hotels for both nights
