Product Info

  • Discover the joy of traditional Japanese sashiko by making your own Sashiko Fukin (traditional stitched cloth) in Tokyo. Sashiko is now enjoyed around the world, especially for visible mending and slow stitching. In Japan, sashiko is also loved as a beautiful handcraft in its own right. One popular project is the Sashiko Fukin—a practical cloth decorated with traditional Japanese patterns. This workshop is designed for beginners. Choose your favorite traditional sashiko pattern and colorful thread, then learn the basics step by step, including how to prepare the cloth and thread, how to start and finish stitching, and the traditional running stitch technique. With a small group of up to four participants, you can learn at a relaxed pace with personal guidance. No previous sashiko or sewing experience is required. Your Fukin will not be completed during the workshop. You will take home your Fukin, sashiko thread, needle, needle threader, and an illustrated instruction guide, so you can continue stitching at your own quiet pace after returning home. Enjoy the rhythm of stitching and take home not only your Sashiko Fukin, but also the basic skills to continue enjoying sashiko on your own.
