Product Info

  • This is a tour where you can walk with a guide along the section of the Shin-etsu Main Line between Karuizawa and Yokokawa, which was discontinued in 1997. Starting near the top of Usui Pass, you will walk along the inbound track toward Toge no Yu. We will meet at the Karuizawa Station North Exit and guide you to the starting point, so please rest assured! For lunch, you will enjoy a special 'Toge no Kamameshi' bento, featuring a limited-edition package exclusive to this abandoned line walk, at the former Kumanodaira Station. While the Megane Bridge is not clearly visible from the inbound track, the final tunnel contains a spot that can only be seen on this course (the scars from the freight electric locomotive derailment and overturning accident that occurred on October 28, 1975). The tour concludes at Toge no Yu, where you are free to disperse. Afterward, you can walk along the 'Aputo no Michi' (Abbt Road) to reach Yokokawa Station in about 45 minutes. To avoid crowding, we use guide earphones, allowing you to hear explanations clearly even from a distance. There will also be time to take photos while listening to the guide share stories about railway history and local trivia. Additionally, thanks to special cooperation, we are conducting signal light demonstrations. While imagining the scenery from the windows of the Shin-etsu Main Line in its heyday, you will be able to see views that are usually inaccessible. ~ Experience Flow ~ 9:00 Registration begins (near the Usui Pass Railway Monument) 9:30 Depart from near the Usui Pass Railway Monument (travel on foot) 10:00 Abandoned line walk starts! It takes about 45 minutes on foot to reach Yokokawa Station. There is also a trolley train from Toge no Yu at the goal point to the Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park. The cost is 1400 JPY for the train fare + park admission. Please check the Railway Heritage Park website for operating days. The last train departs at 15:40. We expect to arrive at Toge no Yu by 15:00, but depending on the group's pace, we may arrive earlier. In that case, you may also take the 14:40 train.
  • Abandoned railway tracks that are only permitted to be entered during events
  • The extraordinary feeling of entering a place that is usually off-limits is irresistible. With railway tracks and equipment from that time still remaining, you can enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere amidst the ruins and discarded juice bottles. You can see the traces of a derailment accident that you would normally never be able to see. It is also fun to photograph railway ruins from angles that are usually inaccessible.
  • Lunch is the famous 'Toge no Kamameshi'
  • We will provide the 'Toge no Kamameshi' in a limited-edition package created in collaboration with the manga 'Shin Ekiben Hitoritabi'!
  • Our guide will lead you to ensure you have a great time.
  • To avoid crowding, we use guide earphones, allowing you to hear explanations clearly even from a distance.
