Product Info

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and step into the most iconic hidden gems of Gifu Prefecture.

First, visit Monet's Pond, often called the 'Japanese version of Monet's Garden.' With its crystal-clear water, water lilies, and colorful koi swimming gracefully, the pond reflects a dreamlike blue-green hue under the sunlight, resembling a world from an Impressionist masterpiece.

Next, head to Gujo Hachiman, known as the 'Water Castle Town.' Stroll through the quaint streets, admire the clear canals and traditional townhouses, enjoy local delicacies, and experience the simple, slow-paced atmosphere of Japan.

In the afternoon, head to Otaki Limestone Cave. Take a unique cable car to the entrance and venture deep into the natural limestone cave, which maintains a constant temperature of about 12–15°C year-round. Admire the spectacular limestone formations created over tens of thousands of years and the magnificent underground waterfall for a cool and adventurous experience.

Collage showcasing the charm of Gifu's Gujo Hachiman old town, featuring traditional Japanese lanterns, a distinctive red bridge, a winding river, and a rainy street scene.

Gujo Hachiman Castle Town: This traditional historic district, centered around Gujo Hachiman Castle, retains the street layout and architectural style of the Edo period. The houses, with their red latticework and bluestone bases, are classic examples of traditional Japanese architecture. Waterways such as the Yoshida River run through the castle town, creating a unique "water town" landscape.

Monet's Pool: An unnamed pool where the famous painting "Water Lilies" is brought to life. The best time to visit is from late June to July (when the water lilies are in full bloom) and during the autumn foliage season. Water lilies are planted in the pool, and colorful koi are kept there. The clear water turns pale blue in the sunlight, creating a dreamlike effect of light and shadow, allowing people to feel the tranquility and beauty of nature, which is refreshing and delightful.
