This plan allows you to easily experience the lifestyle of locals who have lived in close harmony with nature since the Jomon period in the World Heritage site of Shirakami Sanchi. You will be guided by someone born and raised in the area, ensuring a safe and authentic experience in the foothills. First, visit a waterfall beloved by the locals. It is easy to reach yet offers a deep sense of being in a hidden sanctuary, making it well worth seeing. Next, experience picking wild vegetables. Under the guidance of a local expert, you will gather popular wild vegetables like 'mizu'. After returning to Mori no Eki, you will learn how to peel and prepare the vegetables using local methods. Finally, enjoy 'Gakko-Chakko' around a bonfire. In Akita, this term refers to chatting with friends while enjoying snacks like 'gakko' (pickles) and tea. You will enjoy the wild vegetables you prepared yourself and tea brewed with Shirakami Sanchi spring water by the fire. It is a great opportunity to ask the locals about life in this region.
Choshi Falls In the Yunosawa settlement of Fujisato Town, there is the 18-meter-high 'Choshi Falls'. The waterfall was named 'Choshi' (sake decanter) because the shape of the basin resembles a sake decanter, and the way the water falls into it looks like pouring sake. It is a healing spot that is easy to visit but feels like a hidden gem. Wild Vegetable Picking You can experience picking wild vegetables like 'mizu' in the foothills near Choshi Falls. You can rest assured as you will be guided by a local expert. Wild Vegetable Cooking Experience Prepare the wild vegetables you picked yourself. For 'mizu': peel them and put them in boiling water to turn them a beautiful green. Remove them immediately and toss with salted kelp to finish. Gakko-Chakko Enjoy your freshly prepared wild vegetable dishes around a bonfire. You can also enjoy tea brewed with Shirakami spring water. Chatting with locals while watching the flickering flames is a truly healing time. Be sure to ask them about life in this area. *In summer, the bonfire experience can be changed to a cooling experience by the riverside.
