What happens during a session at Asakusa Sumo Club?

Each session starts with your meal, then moves to a live sumo show on the real dohyo right in front of you.

  • Arrival: please come directly to the restaurant by the start time of your session.
  • First half, meal: enjoy your meal and drinks (chicken chanko nabe, a Japanese food set and one drink are included).
  • Japanese dance: before the sumo show, you will also see a Japanese dance performance that changes daily.
  • Second half, sumo show: enjoy the sumo show on the dohyo, presented in Japanese and English and explaining sumo in detail, from its history to training methods and more.

Can you step into the ring at Asakusa Sumo Club?

Yes, guests who wish to can take on a former sumo wrestler, and everyone goes home with a memento.

  • Sumo challenge: put on a sumo costume and challenge a former sumo wrestler.
  • Group photo: after the show, each group has a photo taken with the performers on the dohyo, presented in a special frame.
  • Souvenir: take home the restaurant's original souvenir set as a memento.
