I went on a self-guided tour. The meeting point is in front of a hotel near the Eiffel Tower. If you arrive on time, there will be a queue, and you'll be assigned a bus for your tour. The bus ride takes you to Mont Saint-Michel. The bus clearly announces the meeting times for rest stops multiple times, making it easy to follow. While there are long lines for the restrooms at the rest stops, they allow 30-40 minutes, so you can use the restroom without any problems. We spent about four hours at Mont Saint-Michel, but we were able to quickly look around and even browse the souvenirs.
If you try to see everything in detail inside, you might be cutting it very close. Eating is prohibited inside the abbey, but you can eat in the corridors leading up to it. There are also many takeaway shops. There are many restaurants, but they are crowded and time is limited, so I don't recommend them.
Although the bus ride is long, the timing is just right, and it's easy to get to from Paris, making it a very good tour.
