Product Info

  • NAKED meets Nijo Castle 2026

400 years since the Kanei Imperial Visit, from the modern day to the 'cutting edge' of 400 years ago

Experience Nijo Castle through the 'aesthetic sensibility' that colored the world 400 years ago. An experiential art exhibition that unravels Kanei culture through 'Japanese design.'

Nijo Castle marks the 400th anniversary of the 'Kanei Imperial Visit,' one of the largest cultural events of the Edo period. This exhibition explores the aesthetics of Kanei culture, which dramatically evolved 'Japanese design culture'—including kimonos and lifestyle crafts—that connects to the present day, through art.

Through the aesthetics and sensibilities of Tokugawa Kazuko, a central figure of Kanei culture, the creativity and philosophy behind traditional beauty are reconstructed as art pieces. In addition to intuitive art appreciation, Japanese and English audio guides are available to delve deeper into the origins and stories of the culture. Enjoy a special moment to encounter the new charm of traditional beauty and touch the aesthetic consciousness passed down through time.
