Product Info

  • What is the Fukuoka Open-Top Bus?

The Fukuoka Open-Top Bus is an open-air sightseeing bus operated by Nishi-Nippon Railroad (Nishitetsu). With seats approximately 3.8 meters high and no roof or windows, it allows passengers to rediscover Fukuoka from a perspective and height not possible while walking. The bus travels between Fukuoka's city center and its suburbs, with scenery ranging from historic districts and the bustling Tenjin shopping area to the waterfront and the city lights at night. Unlike regular city buses, the open-top bus itself is a sightseeing experience: the refreshing sea breeze, the open sky, and the unobstructed view make even a one-hour trip memorable. There are currently three themed routes: Momochi, Dazaifu, and the Fukuoka Sparkling Night View, with trip durations of about 60 to 80 minutes. The Momochi and Sparkling Night View routes start and end in the Tenjin area of Fukuoka city, making them perfect for starting your trip or fitting in between shopping and dining for a quick city tour.

  • What can you experience on the Fukuoka Open-Top Bus?

The Momochi Route is a 60-minute round trip themed around 'Fukuoka, where the ocean and city are closely linked.' Departing from the city center, the bus heads toward the coastal area, with skyscrapers and streets on one side and an expansive ocean view on the other. The sea breeze blows directly onto the open-air seats, making this the best route to experience Fukuoka's geographical character. The Dazaifu Route is a 60-minute one-way trip from the lively Tenjin area to Dazaifu, famous as a place of thousand-year-old prayers. The scenery gradually transitions from urban landscapes to historic streets and temple paths. Since it passes through the vicinity of Fukuoka Airport, it is also perfect for your arrival or departure day. The return route runs from Dazaifu back to Hakata and Tenjin, allowing passengers to travel one-way and flexibly connect to their itinerary. The Fukuoka Sparkling Night View Route takes about 80 minutes, departing after dark and passing by several popular photo spots. Enjoy the nightscape of streetlights, bridges, and buildings from the roofless seats—a completely different side of the city compared to the daytime.

  • Which route should I choose: Momochi, Dazaifu, or the Sparkling Night View?

If this is your first time getting to know Fukuoka, we recommend the Momochi Route. It is a round-trip tour that covers both the city center and the waterfront in about 60 minutes, making it easy to return to your starting point and continue your plans. If you have already planned a visit to Dazaifu or want to turn your travel time into sightseeing, the Dazaifu Route is more suitable. It operates one-way, allowing you to take it from Tenjin to Dazaifu or return from Dazaifu to Hakata/Tenjin, upgrading simple transportation into a scenic experience. If your daytime is already packed with spots or you want to end your trip with a lasting impression, the Fukuoka Sparkling Night View Route is recommended, offering an 80-minute night tour to see sights invisible during the day. With three distinct themes, travelers with extra time can even take the Momochi Route during the day and the Night View route at night to experience two different sides of Fukuoka in a single day.
