  • Tasmanian penguins are the smallest of all penguin species, have the loudest calls, and are the only ones with blue and white feathers (others are black and white). Consequently, they have many nicknames, such as Little Penguins or Blue Penguins, but the most common name is Fairy Penguin.
  • Watch them return from the clear waters of the Bass Strait to their nests at the Low Head Coastal Reserve. The reserve hosts the largest penguin colony in Tasmania, with penguins returning every night throughout the year. You can watch them swim to the surface, stand up to preen, and waddle up the beach.
  • The penguin viewing tour is fully guided and takes about 1 hour, with a total trip duration of approximately 3.5 hours including travel time to and from Launceston.
  • Return to Launceston for drop-off at the end of the tour

Purchase Notice

  • Flash photography, handheld flashlights, and selfie sticks are strictly prohibited during the viewing process (bright light can hurt the penguins' eyes and disrupt their nesting rhythm; this is a strict rule of the reserve. Please follow the infrared lighting provided by the park throughout the tour)
  • Do not chase, touch, or approach penguin burrows; maintain a safe viewing distance
  • The temperature difference at the seaside at night is significant, and it can be very cold and windy! Please wear a thick jacket, long pants, and comfortable, fully-enclosed shoes
  • Follow the guide's route at all times and do not step on the beach grass to avoid damaging penguin nests
  • No refunds or compensation will be provided for any tour fees paid if you are unable to participate in the itinerary or withdraw from any part of the tour due to personal reasons (such as lack of travel documents, flight delays, late arrivals, illness, accidents, etc.)
  • No order changes or refunds will be issued for late arrivals or no-shows by participants

Reminders

  • A minimum of 2 traveler(s) are required for the tour to depart. If the number of participants does not reach the minimum requirement, the tour will be canceled. An email regarding tour cancellation will be sent 2 day(s) before the departure date

  • Please arrive at the designated location 15 minute(s) before the scheduled departure time, as the tour will depart on time
