Product Info

  1. Board the icebreaker ship 'Aurora'

Drift ice originates from the Amur River, the largest river in the Far East flowing along the border of China and Russia. As the freshwater flows into the Sea of Okhotsk and freezes, it grows larger as it drifts southward.

The 'Aurora' is a large vessel, so you can enjoy a smooth ride with minimal rocking while it breaks through the ice! Relax in the cabins on the 1st and 2nd floors, or head to the observation deck to experience the powerful sight of the drift ice up close!

 ■ Drift ice experience rate (2026): 77% [Surveyed by Doto Kanko Kaihatsu]

 ■ First day of drift ice (2026): 1/26 [Surveyed by Sea Ice Information Center]

 ■ Last day of drift ice (2026): 4/16 [Surveyed by Sea Ice Information Center]

  * Please note that as drift ice is a natural phenomenon, there is a possibility you may not be able to see it.

  * The icebreaker ship Aurora operates regardless of the presence of drift ice. If there is no drift ice, the cruise will proceed as a sightseeing tour to Cape Notoro.

  * If the icebreaker ship Aurora is cancelled due to weather or other conditions, the cruise fare will be refunded. An alternative sightseeing plan will be provided by the tour conductor on the day.

2. Experience 'Ice touch' and 'Drift ice Mini walk'!

A local nature tour guide knowledgeable about drift ice will accompany you.

  * Since you will be walking on drift ice, please come dressed in warm clothing and comfortable walking shoes.

  * Please note that as drift ice is a natural phenomenon, this experience may not be possible.

  * In case of bad weather or lack of drift ice, we will take you to the Shiretoko Museum instead.

(Note) If the local nature tour guide is unavailable due to illness or other reasons, you will be accompanied by another professional guide.

3. Stay at the 5-star 'Shiretoko Daiichi Hotel' (Shiretoko Utoro Onsen)

Enjoy buffet-style breakfast and dinner at the hotel restaurant 'Marscoi', which overlooks the Sea of Okhotsk.

For dinner, enjoy freshly prepared sushi and tempura made to order! (90 minutes) Includes an all-you-can-drink service with alcoholic beverages.

For breakfast, indulge in a buffet with a rich selection of about 80 items, including freshly baked French toast.

'Utoro Onsen', nestled in the great nature of Shiretoko, is known for warming your body to the core and keeping you warm long after your bath.
