Product Info
- At 'Hashiya Ichizen', a chopstick shop located in Yufuin, Oita, we offer an original chopstick-making experience. You will use a small knife to carve and finish the wood yourself. The duration is approximately 1-2 hours.
- Carving with a small knife and sandpaper
- Once you have the tools and materials ready, our craftsman will first explain how to carve and decorate your chopsticks. You can use a small knife and sandpaper, similar to sharpening a pencil. For those who are not comfortable with a knife or for small children, we will teach you how to finish them using only sandpaper (even a 4-year-old has enjoyed this experience).
- Take your time. The final touch is with a wood-burning pen.
- The average time required is about 1.5 to 2 hours. Some people finish in 30-40 minutes, while others have spent 4 hours perfecting theirs. Please enjoy the process at your own pace. Once the shape is complete, you can use a wood-burning pen to add your name, the date, or any text you like. After all the work is done, we will apply a waterproof coating, so please wait about 2 weeks for them to be delivered to your home.
