• Raizan Senryuji Temple, located on the mountainside of Raizan in Itoshima City, Fukuoka Prefecture, is known as Raizan Kannon. As the main temple of the Daikakuji school of Shingon Buddhism, it has a long history dating back to the reign of Emperor Seimu (178 AD). It not only has a wooden standing statue of the Thousand-Armed Kannon and a seated statue of Seiga Shonin, both of which are listed as Important Cultural Properties, but also an ancient maple grove designated as a Natural Monument of Fukuoka Prefecture. Every year in mid-to-late November, the mountain is covered with red leaves, which, together with the Heart-shaped Pond and the dry landscape garden, create a Zen-like atmosphere.
