Kamikochi, located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is a breathtaking mountain resort at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters. As part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park, it has been designated as both a Special Place of Scenic Beauty and a Special Natural Monument of Japan.
From Kappa Bridge, which spans the Azusa River flowing through the Northern Japan Alps (Hida Mountains), visitors can admire the majestic Hotaka Mountain Range, towering over 3,000 meters. Other popular walking courses include Taisho Pond, Myojin Pond, and Tokusawa, where visitors can fully immerse themselves in the grandeur of nature. Kamikochi welcomes approximately 1.5 million visitors annually, making it a lively mountain resort perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation.

Kamikochi is located at an altitude of 1,500m, where mountain weather can be unpredictable. It’s advisable to bring rain gear for unexpected showers. Even in summer, temperatures can drop below 10°C, so having an extra layer is recommended. Comfortable footwear such as sneakers or trekking shoes is also advised, as many trails are unpaved and feature sloping mountain paths.
