Our experienced Hiruzen Tour Desk members will guide you through the primeval beech forest spreading at its headwaters. Without a guide, you risk losing your sense of direction in bad weather, which is extremely dangerous. - The headwaters of the Yamanojo River in Shitao, Hiruzen, Maniwa City, Okayama Prefecture, are a treasure trove of giant beech and Japanese oak trees. According to the Ministry of the Environment, a 'giant tree' is defined as having a circumference of 3 meters or more at 130 centimeters above the ground, and there are over 60 such beech trees confirmed in the headwaters of the Yamanojo River alone. This tour takes you on a leisurely 5 to 7-hour journey covering less than 2 kilometers to visit over a dozen of these trees in a single loop. Mid-May to early June is the perfect chance to see endangered species!!
- Just how 'bushy' is the 'bush' in bushwhacking and giant tree trekking?
- In areas with dense Chishimazasa bamboo, there are spots where it can take over 30 minutes to advance just 10 meters. There are places where you might struggle, feeling like you cannot pull your foot out once you step in, or cannot step in once you pull your foot out, but please rest assured. We will avoid those areas. While we have recorded Chishimazasa bamboo as long as 427 centimeters, most are around 250 centimeters. Upon request, we can also provide a route where you can experience the dense bush for 10 to 15 minutes during the tour. Please come and experience it for yourself.

Questions regarding reservations:

- Question 2: Customers who are high school age or younger, please let us know your grade level.
Regarding the cancellation of the event:
- We will make our final decision at 5 PM the day before and contact you by 8 PM. If you contact us, we will let you know our decision at that time.
Important notes regarding course participation:
- • Rain gear is mandatory. The tour will proceed even in light rain. • White gloves and hats are recommended. • Please bring your own lunch (please consult with us). • If you wear contact lenses, please bring several pairs of daily disposable lenses in case you lose them during the tour.
Other special notes:
- While the maximum number of participants is 30, we can accommodate groups of up to 50. For groups of 10 or more, please contact us separately regarding the per-person guide fee.

Regarding clothing and belongings: ① Sturdy shoes (hiking boots are best) *Please wear two pairs of socks. ② Towel, gloves (with non-slip grips), hat *Rain gear is essential. ③ Tea or sports drink, sweets (e.g., candy, chocolate), and a packed lunch. ④ If possible, a 1/25000 topographic map, mobile phone, camera, LED light (if you have one), and binoculars (if you have one). ⑤ Please wear loose-fitting pants and a jacket that minimizes skin exposure.

- Cancellation is not allowed between 0–3 days from the selected date. Orders cannot be canceled or modified, and refunds will not be granted.
