Product Info

  • The 'bento' is a quintessential Japanese home-cooked meal. In this class, you will learn how to pack sushi rolls and tamagoyaki (rolled omelet) into a small box, with instructions provided in English (and Japanese). Located in Kamakura, the classroom welcomes many guests from overseas. Beyond just making bento, you can enjoy cross-cultural exchange by crafting simple origami chopstick holders and sharing stories about your respective food cultures. We also recommend taking your handmade bento out for a stroll around Kamakura. ~Daily Schedule~ ① Lesson overview and recipe explanation (10 min) ② Demonstration + hands-on practice (20 min) ③ Making sushi rolls (20 min) ④ Packing & making origami chopstick holders (20 min) ⑤ Local supermarket tour (20 min)
  • Cross-cultural exchange at a cooking class
  • This bento class is popular with international participants. Cross-cultural exchange through bento making is one of the highlights. Even if you do not speak English fluently, you can connect with others by working together to create your meals. Children from elementary school age and up are welcome, so please feel free to join us as a family.
  • Making sushi rolls without a bamboo mat
  • We do not use any special ingredients or equipment, as the goal is for you to be able to recreate the meal easily anywhere after the lesson. We have prepared recipes that allow you to create delicious and beautiful results without needing items like 'mirin' or a 'bamboo mat' (makisu), which can be difficult to find overseas.
  • Explore Kamakura after the lesson
  • Kamakura is rich in nature, surrounded by both the sea and mountains, and is full of great spots for walking. After the lesson, you can enjoy exploring Kamakura with the bento you have made.
