Experience the vibrant colors of spring at Ninna-ji, as cherished trees and bushes bloom in a breathtaking display. The annual Ninna-ji Flower Festival, typically held from mid-March to early May, celebrates the enchanting Omuro Sakura. These cherry trees deliberately kept low for aesthetic appeal, feature large flowers with a sweet fragrance. Delight in the various varieties, including the popular Omuro Ariake with its cloud-like white blossoms.
Discover the renowned Omuro Sakura, celebrated since the Edo period (1603–1868) when Ninna-ji welcomed the public for cherry blossom viewing (hanami). These cherry blossoms still draw crowds each spring, reaching full bloom in mid-April alongside azaleas painting the scenery in shades of pink and light purple. As the festival nears its end, maple trees offer a vibrant green backdrop to the floral spectacle.
