  • Zuishin-in Temple
    Zuishin-in is famous as the final residence of Ono no Komachi, a renowned female waka poet of the Heian period. Legend says she possessed peerless beauty. The famous 'Hundred Night' legend tells of her telling her suitor, Fukakusa no Shosho, that she would accept his love if he visited her for one hundred consecutive nights, regardless of the weather. However, the suitor died in a snowstorm on the 99th night. Upon hearing the news, Komachi was overcome with grief and regret, living out the rest of her life in solitude. To this day, a monument inscribed with Ono no Komachi's poems remains at Zuishin-in for visitors to pay their respects.
