Product Info

Depart Geraldton on a spectacular scenic flight to the Abrolhos Islands, flying low over the Pelsaert Group before continuing north to the Wallabi Group. Descend past East Wallabi, West Wallabi, and the famous Super Tubes surf break for breathtaking views of coral reefs and turquoise lagoons.

The Abrolhos Islands are the southernmost true coral reefs in the Indian Ocean and one of the world’s most important seabird breeding areas. The region is rich in marine life, with vibrant coral gardens and regular sightings of sea lions, dolphins, and seasonal whales.

Land on East Wallabi Island and enjoy a short walk to Turtle Bay, where the morning is spent swimming and snorkelling in calm, protected reef waters. Relax over an included lunch with tea and plunger coffee, with Standard, Vegan, and Gluten-Free options available, before joining a guided nature walk to explore birdlife, limestone formations, and neighbouring islands.

After departing the Abrolhos, fly back to the mainland to circle the brilliant Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake near Port Gregory. Continue north along the dramatic Kalbarri coastal cliffs, past Bluff Point and the mouth of the Murchison River, before flying inland over the Kalbarri National Park gorges, including Z-Bend and the Loop. Return to Geraldton via the inland route, completing an unforgettable Coral Coast air adventure.

FAQ

1. Is overnight accommodation available on the Abrolhos Islands?

The Abrolhos Islands are primarily used for fishing and conservation, with limited facilities. While some basic accommodation exists for licensed fishers or researchers on specific islands like East Wallabi, it is generally not available for casual tourists. Most visitors experience the Abrolhos Islands on a full-day tour, which includes island landings and activities without overnight stays.

2. What historical events took place on the Abrolhos Islands?

The Abrolhos Islands are most famously associated with the 1629 shipwreck of the Dutch East Indiaman Batavia on Morning Reef. This event led to a brutal mutiny and massacre on Beacon Island, making it one of Australia's most significant maritime historical sites. Visitors landing on East Wallabi during a tour can often learn more about this captivating history.

3. Who is responsible for the ownership and management of the Abrolhos Islands?

The Houtman Abrolhos Islands are a Class A Nature Reserve and are owned by the Crown in right of Western Australia. They are managed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) to protect their unique ecological and historical values.

The Abrolhos Islands are a pristine archipelago renowned for their stunning coral reefs, diverse marine life, and significant seabird populations. Located where tropical and temperate waters meet, they host a unique blend of flora and fauna, including rare wallabies on islands like East Wallabi. The islands also feature crystal-clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches.

5. What causes the distinctive pink color of Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake?

The vibrant pink and red hues of Hutt Lagoon Pink Lake are caused by the presence of `Dunaliella salina` algae. This microalga produces beta-carotene, a pigment also found in carrots, as a protective mechanism against high salinity and intense sunlight. The intensity of the pink color can vary depending on cloud cover, time of day, and the season.

6. What activities and wildlife viewing opportunities are available on East Wallabi Island?
