- Airport Transfer Information -

• Airport Pickup: The driver/guide will not contact you in advance. They will wait for you at the arrival gate with a sign displaying your name based on your actual flight arrival time and will inform you of that evening's aurora viewing and city tour schedule.

• Aurora viewing typically takes place from 22:00 to 02:00 the next day. We recommend booking a flight that arrives before 21:00.

If your flight arrives after 22:00, you will miss the departure time for aurora viewing. After picking you up at the airport, the driver/guide will take you directly to the aurora viewing location to join the others, which will shorten your viewing time.

If your flight arrives after 01:30 the next morning, you will not be able to participate in the first aurora viewing session.

• Airport Drop-off Service:

 1. We do not provide airport drop-off service for return flights between 03:00 and 11:00; you will need to arrange your own transportation to the airport. If you have booked a package that includes a hotel, you may use the hotel's complimentary early-morning shuttle to the airport. If you have booked a package without hotel accommodation, please arrange your own transportation to the airport.

 2. For guests with return flights between 11:00 and 02:59, the guide will notify you of the drop-off time in advance, typically departing 2-3 hours before your flight. In the event of a flight delay, the drop-off will proceed as originally scheduled unless the guide notifies you of a change. Please understand that individual drop-off times cannot be specified.

 • Only one complimentary airport pickup is provided per order within the designated time frame. If pickup cannot be arranged due to weather, flight delays, etc., please arrange your own transportation at your own expense.

Purchase Notice

1. The majority of the Canada Goose winter jackets available for rent are from the Expedition series. They look fantastic in photos taken under the aurora borealis, but are very prone to getting dirty. As these jackets are rentals, some wear and tear is inevitable during actual use. Although they are disinfected and cleaned after each use, stains, signs of wear, or damage may still be present. There are approximately 200 winter jackets available, and the size and shoe options are limited, which may not fully meet the needs of every traveler's body type or foot shape. Therefore, we sincerely recommend that if you already have sufficient and suitable winter clothing, please bring your own and do not rent. The rental service primarily provides a convenient option for travelers without complete winter gear, and is for warmth only.

2. Minors or children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the tour. Minors or children traveling alone are not allowed to participate.

3. For the safety of pregnant women, pregnant women must be no more than 24 weeks pregnant at the end of the tour to participate.

4. The hotel offers different room types, such as a king/queen size room or a double size room with two twin beds. While the number of rooms available is guaranteed, the specific room type and location are not guaranteed. Specific bed types cannot be requested; availability is subject to change.

5. The itinerary does not accept or will not assist with sharing rooms with strangers. Room types and numbers must be booked according to the actual number of travelers.

6. Each hotel has different methods for collecting and refunding deposits (mostly via credit card). Tour participants will need to cooperate according to the specific regulations.

7. The Northern Lights are a unique natural phenomenon in the polar regions. Under clear weather conditions, there is a very high chance of seeing them. However, due to weather conditions or other natural factors, the Northern Lights may be weak and unseen. No refunds will be given if you do not see them or the experience is unsatisfactory.

8. The order of the itinerary for this product will be readjusted based on the tourists' arrival date, local weather, etc. The content of the tour will remain the same, and the displayed itinerary order is for reference only. Optional activities will be coordinated and arranged based on factors such as registration and weather conditions. The recommendations in the itinerary are for reference only and do not represent the actual dates of the activities. If you have any activities not included in the itinerary, please confirm in advance to avoid itinerary conflicts.

9. Smoking is prohibited on the tour bus. Most hotel rooms also prohibit smoking; hotel cleaning staff are professionally trained, and security personnel will professionally record evidence. If caught smoking, the cleaning fee will be borne by the guest. If you need to smoke, please go to the designated smoking area.

10. Pets and animals are not allowed on the tour.

11. Each order only provides one free airport pick-up service within the specified time frame. If pick-up cannot be arranged due to weather, flight delays, or other reasons, the customer is responsible for their own transportation costs.

12. If you are unable to participate in the tour or withdraw from any part of the tour due to personal reasons (lack of travel documents, flight delays, lateness, illness, accidents, etc.), the tour fee and accommodation fee already paid will not be refunded, and no other compensation will be provided.

Reminders

  • A minimum of 4 traveler(s) are required for the tour to depart. If the number of participants does not reach the minimum requirement, the tour will be canceled. An email regarding tour cancellation will be sent 2 day(s) before the departure date

FAQ

1. What is the best viewing period for the Northern Lights in Yellowknife?

Yellowknife offers an exceptionally long aurora viewing season, typically spanning from mid-August to mid-April. The prime viewing months are usually between September and March, when the nights are longest and darkest, and clear skies are more frequent, maximizing the chances of witnessing spectacular aurora displays.

2. What makes Yellowknife a prime destination for an unforgettable Northern Lights experience?

Yellowknife is widely recognized as a top global destination for aurora viewing, even cited by NASA. Its unique location directly under the auroral oval, combined with minimal light pollution and consistently clear, dark skies, provides unparalleled opportunities to witness vibrant Northern Lights. The city also offers a range of unique winter activities.

3. How does Yellowknife compare to other Canadian destinations for Northern Lights viewing?

Yellowknife stands out as Canada's 'Aurora Capital' due to its geographical advantage of being directly within the auroral oval. This positioning leads to a significantly higher frequency and intensity of aurora displays compared to many other Canadian cities. Its stable weather patterns and flat landscape further contribute to superior viewing conditions.

4. What optional winter activities are available in Yellowknife besides aurora viewing?

Beyond the incredible Northern Lights, Yellowknife offers a variety of classic winter activities to enjoy during the day. Popular choices include exhilarating dog sledding adventures, ice fishing excursions on frozen lakes, and exploring unique frozen waterfalls, providing a comprehensive winter travel experience in the subarctic.

5. What are the transportation options for travelers navigating Yellowknife during an aurora trip?

Yellowknife is a relatively compact city, making it easy to get around. For aurora viewing, tours typically provide comfortable transportation to and from viewing sites. Within the city, taxis are readily available, and for those who prefer independent travel, rental cars are an option, though caution is advised for winter driving conditions.

6. Is it recommended to join a guided tour for Northern Lights viewing in Yellowknife, or can I explore independently?

While independent viewing is possible, joining a guided tour for Northern Lights in Yellowknife is highly recommended. Tours provide experienced guides who know the best viewing spots, track weather and aurora forecasts, and offer comfortable, heated shelters. They also arrange transportation to optimal, dark locations away from city lights, greatly enhancing your viewing success and comfort.

7. What are the key differences between seeing the Northern Lights in Yellowknife versus Churchill?

Yellowknife is globally recognized specifically for its high frequency and intensity of aurora displays, stemming from its prime location directly under the auroral oval. Churchill, while also offering aurora views, is primarily famous as a polar bear viewing destination. For dedicated, consistent Northern Lights hunting, Yellowknife generally offers a superior experience focused solely on the aurora.

8. How many nights are typically recommended to increase the chances of seeing the Northern Lights in Yellowknife?

To significantly increase your chances of witnessing the Northern Lights in Yellowknife, a stay of at least three nights is highly recommended. This duration allows for multiple viewing opportunities, accounting for potential variations in weather conditions and solar activity over different evenings, thereby maximizing the likelihood of a successful sighting.
