  • Our shop, Yamagami Dyeing Shop, is located in Murakami City in the northern part of Niigata Prefecture. We have been dedicated to the art of dyeing for over 360 years. Even as times change, our commitment to creating dyed goods that fit into people's daily lives remains the same. We strive to create items that are always by your side and bring peace of mind when you look at them.
  • Northernmost Tea Dyeing Experience
  • Our original 'Northernmost Tea Dye' uses botanical dyeing with Murakami tea, a local specialty of Murakami City. You will tie a white handkerchief with rubber bands and chopsticks to create patterns, then dye it with Murakami tea. Enjoy the unique, sophisticated colors and the charm of resist dyeing.
  • Includes a tour of Machiya architecture!
  • Many 'Machiya'—a unique architectural style of castle towns—still exist in Murakami City. Our main building was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2007 because it retains the features of that era so well. It is open to the public throughout the year during business hours, so please feel free to visit us.

How to Get There
By car: 7 minutes from the Murakami-Senami Onsen IC on the Nihonkai-Tohoku Expressway. By train: 15 minutes on foot from Murakami Station on the JR Uetsu Main Line.
