金山嶺長城的主要看點即為其走勢逶迤險峻，兩側視野非常開闊壯觀，十分合適攝影拍照。
長城最東側的一段名為文字磚長城，其中百分之七十的城磚上面都刻有文字，記錄著城磚的製造單位和時間，非常的獨特珍貴。另外，這一段長城未經過多的重修復建，所以依然比較古樸，在這裡也能看到長城最真實的樣子。
以落日之景稱著的金山嶺，景觀有三大特點：夕陽熔金，雄宏壯美，天山一色。夕陽西下的金山嶺，長城城牆都被渡上了一層金光，流光溢彩，色彩斑斕，整個天空都會被渲染成糖果色，此時的長城彷彿進入了童話般的世界，讓人心生雀躍，神思遐想。
