Product Info

A red-brick castle stands atop the hill, overlooking the Tamsui River estuary. Red tiles paired with white corridors cast elegant, arched shadows in the sunlight. Pass through the fortress walls and climb up to the century-old battery. Tamsui Fort San Domingo, the Little White House, and Hobe Fort together create a town full of history, perfect for a leisurely stroll.

Standing in Tamsui for over 300 years, Fort San Domingo is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Taiwan and is currently listed as a national historic site. The castle-style main fort, the Western-style consular residence, and the Qing Dynasty South Gate all served various functions, including military defense, consular offices, and dungeons. When you reach the square in front of the fort, besides taking photos at the best spot, do not forget to look out at the views of the Tamsui River and Mount Guanyin. One of the eight scenic spots of Tamsui, 'Sunset at the Fort,' is located right here, and the beauty of the sunset is not to be missed.

The Little White House, formerly the 'Tamsui Customs Officer's Residence,' has a history of over a century and is named after its striking white Western-style exterior. A must-see at the Little White House is the neatly arranged row of 'semi-circular arches.' When the sunlight hits, the white building appears even more pristine and elegant. This simple Spanish-style white chalk corridor architecture, paired with an orange roof, looks dazzling against the blue sky. The arched corridor design adds a touch of romantic charm to the Little White House.

Hobe Fort is located at a commanding height. Built with sturdy materials, this magnificent battery can be considered the best military fortress for 19th-century warfare and garrisoning, and it is also an important coastal defense facility from the modernization era of Qing Dynasty Taiwan.
