From the entrance of Arakurayama Sengen Park, it takes approximately 15-20 minutes to climb about 400 stone steps to reach the Chureito Pagoda viewpoint. This climb requires a moderate level of fitness, so comfortable shoes and ample time are recommended. You can enjoy the surrounding scenery along the way.
The most famous highlight of Arakurayama Sengen Park is the iconic view of Mount Fuji framed by the Chureito Pagoda, especially stunning during spring. Beyond the cherry blossom season, the park offers different seasonal beauty. You can overlook Fujiyoshida City from a high vantage point and feel the majesty of Mount Fuji. It's also an excellent spot for capturing classic photos of the mountain.
Arakurayama Sengen Park has a parking lot for self-driving visitors. However, during peak seasons like the cherry blossom season, parking spaces can be limited and fill up quickly. Traffic control measures may also be implemented at certain times. It is advisable to arrive early or consider using public transportation to avoid the hassle of finding parking.
The spring water at Oshino Hakkai is crystal clear, originating from melted snow from Mount Fuji filtered through the ground. While the water appears pure, direct consumption is not recommended at most springs for safety reasons. Some vendors offer treated drinking water for visitors to sample. Its unique feature lies in the eight springs, each with its own distinct scenery, where you can observe koi swimming and the reflection of Mount Fuji.
There are many specialty snacks and dining options around Oshino Hakkai. You can try local specialties such as soba noodles made with Mount Fuji's spring water, grilled fish, fresh tofu, Yomogi mochi (mugwort rice cakes), and various Japanese dumplings. Small shops within the village also offer light meals and souvenirs, allowing you to enjoy food while sightseeing.
The best viewing season for the Kochia (broom cypress) at Oishi Park, Lake Kawaguchiko, is approximately from mid-July to late October each year. They appear vibrant green in the summer and gradually turn red in the autumn, creating a colorful spectacle. Additionally, lavender blooms at the park from late June to mid-July, offering a different floral attraction.
The most convenient way to get to Oishi Park from Kawaguchiko Station is by taking the red line (Lake Kawaguchiko Nature Living Center Line) of the Kawaguchiko Sightseeing Bus. You can board the bus at the bus stop in front of Kawaguchiko Station and get off at the final stop, 'Lake Kawaguchiko Nature Living Center,' which is adjacent to Oishi Park. The journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes.
The clearest season to view Mount Fuji is typically in winter (around November to February). During this period, the air is dry, visibility is high, and clouds or fog are less likely to obscure the view. The summit is often covered in snow, creating a magnificent snow-capped peak. It is recommended to observe it on a clear morning for the most complete and breathtaking scenery of Mount Fuji.
